Showdown in Delhi: Why Activists Are Being Stopped from Protesting on October 10

Date:

If you are planning to be in New Delhi on October 10, 2026, you might find the city on high alert. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a political group, is preparing for a major protest in the heart of the capital. However, they are facing a very big roadblock: the police have firmly said “no.”

Here is a simple breakdown of what is happening, why people are upset, and the looming showdown between citizens and the police.

Why Are People Protesting?

The CJP and its supporters are deeply unhappy about recent changes made to election rules. They are marching to the capital with one main demand: they want the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, to step down.

CJP’s founder, Abhijeet Dipke, has heavily criticized the government. He believes that the real reason behind these new election rules is to ensure that only one single party stays in power, silencing the voices of the opposition.

The Human Toll: Police Notices at Home

Imagine packing your bags to travel to the capital to peacefully raise your voice, only to get a warning letter from your local police station. This is exactly what CJP workers are currently dealing with.

Activists in places like Chandrapur, Maharashtra, are reportedly receiving legal notices directly from the police. These letters warn them not to travel to Delhi for the agitation. Furthermore, workers are being questioned about how they are paying for their travel, and they have been told not to post anything online that might cause public unrest.

Dipke and the activists feel this is deeply unfair. They are asking a simple question: Why is the police assuming our peaceful protest will turn violent? For many of these workers, it feels like an attempt to scare ordinary people into staying home.

Delhi’s Doors Are Closed

Meanwhile, over in Delhi, the authorities are leaving nothing to chance. The Delhi Police have officially denied the CJP permission to hold their protest at Jantar Mantar (Delhi’s famous protest site).

Because New Delhi is a highly sensitive area filled with important government buildings, the police have enforced Section 163 (similar to the older Section 144). This is a strict rule that completely bans large gatherings.

The police have been very tough on this rule over the past week. Anyone who has tried to protest in New Delhi—including top leaders from other political parties—has been quickly put into buses and temporarily taken to police camps. The police are guarding the streets so strictly that protesters are not even allowed to wander near Jantar Mantar.

Even without permission, the CJP seems determined to show up on October 10. Whether it ends in peaceful chants or mass detentions by the police, the coming days will be a major test of patience for everyone involved.
